For some authorities there is a requirement to be vigilant and alert to the needs of more than one type of cohort for their children. One such cohort that many authorities have great difficulties managing and tracking children’s attendance data for are from the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller community.
Due to the success Welfare Call has had with monitoring the attendance for the looked after children within Norfolk Virtual School, we have now been commissioned by The Norfolk Traveller Education Service to monitor the attendance of the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller cohort.
This works in exactly the same way as how we collect attendance for the looked after children in that we make a daily telephone call to all the necessary education provisions to ensure the children have gained a morning and afternoon registration mark. The one slight difference is that we don’t provide the follow up call to carers and social workers should a child be marked as absent. Instead we notify the Norfolk Traveller Education team immediately so that they can act accordingly.
As with all the attendance monitoring services we provide, the full range of attendance reports are available when monitoring this specific cohort along with the use of the extranet (online database).
